Invitation to Participate in a Focus Group Discussion – Newborn Screening of Sickle Cell Disease in Kaduna

Kaduna State government through the Ministry of Health and Human Services with partner research bodies and individuals are planning for a pilot study for Newborn Screening of sickle cell disease to inform a national policy.

The study is sponsored by Kaduna State government with support of SCORE (Sickle cell cohort research), a charitable research outfit. In view of the evidence on ground for improved care of the sickle person when diagnosis is made at birth, we proposed a focus group discussion to enable us come out with an acceptable and a standard framework for the implementation of newborn screening program across the state. The focus group discussion will help us to:

1. Engage you the Community, policymakers and healthcare providers to determine potential barriers and develop strategies for the implementation of a Newborn screening programme in Nigeria.

2. To determine the feasibility of establishing a sickle cell disease Newborn screening programme within primary care settings in Kaduna State.
